Chris Backemeyer for Congress

Worth supporting: Chris Backemeyer for Congress

Why he matters: Chris Backemeyer is a Lincoln native — a graduate of Lincoln East High School whose family has farmed in Cass County for generations. He spent more than two decades in public service at the U.S. State Department and the White House, working on counterterrorism, economic policy, and the Middle East, before returning home to Lincoln. He won the Democratic primary for Nebraska's 1st Congressional District on May 12, 2026, and faces incumbent Republican Mike Flood in the general election.

His focus:

• Lowering costs for Nebraska families
• Reasserting Congress's authority over tariffs and trade policy
• Addressing rising health care prices and the national debt
• Standing up to corruption and abuse of power in Washington
